Google Fixes Search Problem in Outlook Sync Tool for Apps

Google has fixed an issue with the Outlook synchronization tool it released recently for its Apps hosted communications and collaboration suite, Google said Tuesday.
That tool, called Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook, didn't play well with programs that interact directly with the Outlook data file, such as Windows Desktop Search. Specifically, Apps Sync, during installation, disabled Windows Desktop Search, which lets users find information in Outlook.

Facebook Simplifies Privacy Settings, Calls Them Too Complex

Facebook will simplify the way in which it offers privacy options to its users, as it gets ready to give its members for the first time the option to make the content they post on their profiles available to anyone on the Internet.
Right now, Facebook privacy controls are too scattered across multiple settings pages and they lack uniformity, creating confusion among members, Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly said Wednesday during a press conference.

Gov't Official: We're Serious About Cybersecurity This Time

The U.S. White House is determined to follow through on its efforts to make cybersecurity a top priority, despite earlier government efforts that have fallen flat, a top official said Wednesday.
A 60-day review of the nation's cybersecurity stance, completed recently by White House cybersecurity experts, has a list of specific goals, said Christopher Painter, cybersecurity director at the U.S. National Security Council.

Citibank Tests out Payments Using Mobile Phones

Citibank is starting a large trial of the use of mobile phones to make credit card payments at retail outlets and other points-of-sale in Bangalore, which the company is branding as "Citi Tap and Pay".
The trial will cover 3,000 to 5,000 mobile users and about 500 merchants, it said.
