NEC VT660
The $1995 NEC VT660 did not display text as well as it did graphics and motion: There was slight blurring on some text screens. Still, overall, the text results were far from the worst we saw in our test batch. Setup is simplified by the projector's automatic keystone correction, which adjusts the image into a straight-sided rectangle. Menu options are well organized and easy to navigate. The remote provides basic controls like mute, freeze frame, and magnify; but it lacks a laser pointer and picture in picture. Though the VT660 comes fully equipped with audio and video inputs, it isn't bundled with any cables, so you'll have to buy the ones you need. The unit's 1700-lumens brightness is powerful enough to serve medium-size groups, and its low price and respectable video quality make it a contender for home use.The reasonably priced NEC VT660 can serve small or medium-size groups, and it can double as a home unit.
