Gateway, Fujitsu Unveil Centrino Duo Notebooks

New consumer laptops feature Intel's mobile dual-core chip.

Fujitsu Computer Systems and Gateway are using the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to tout some of their new notebook computers targeting primarily the consumer sector.

Fujitsu announced the LifeBook N6410 and the LifeBook E8110 notebooks powered by Intel's Centrino Duo chips. The machines are equipped with Intel's new dual-core processor for mobile computing, the Mobile Intel 945 Express Chip set, and the company's PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network WLAN connection technology.

The LifeBook N6410 has two hard drives, offering up to 320GB of total storage.

Both notebooks will be available in the first half of 2006.

Gateway's Product Plans

Also this week, Gateway announced a number of new notebooks using Intel's Centrino Duo technology: the NX860 for home and home-office users, and the M685-E for businesses. Both will begin shipping in February.

Neither of the vendors announced pricing for their machines.

Gateway also announced plans to bring out a high-performance desktop PC using Intel's Viiv technology.

Viiv (which rhymes with five) is Intel's second major consumer brand for identifying a collection of Intel components designed to deliver a certain experience.

Modeled on the company's Centrino brand for notebook technology, Viiv PCs will come with one of Intel's Pentium Extreme Edition, Pentium D, or Yonah processors, the associated chip sets for those processors, an Intel-developed network controller, and software designed to make it easier for consumers to make their PCs the center of a home media network.
