NEW YORK-- Business travelers are fans of the new lightweight data projectors, though at $4500 and up the devices have been relatively tough on the budget--until now. Lightware has introduced a pair of three-pound data projectors at breakthrough prices of as low as $1795, at PC Expo (part of TechX NY) here this week.
Both projectors in the Lightware Legend series are based on
Texas Instruments' DLP technology, which takes up less space than LCDs and
enables this new generation of microportable projectors. Both of Lightware's
new devices deliver 800 ANSI lumens of brightness and such desirable features
as digital zoom and keystone correction, and support for composite and S-video.
Both also bundle a wireless remote control and come with all required
cables.
The Legend LS-8, with SVGA resolution, is priced at $1795. Lightware's Legend LX-8, at $2695, is still favorably priced for a projector that supports XGA resolution.
Most of today's three-pound projectors, shipping from companies such as Acer, InFocus, and Toshiba, carry price tags of $4500. Some of these, however, boast additional features beyond the Lightware pair, such as brighter lamps.
Lightware, which was bought late last year by Plus, has historically competed aggressively on price.
