Delay-Free Defrag
Run Defrag before Windows loads for a faster finish.Lenny Bailes
Defragmenting your hard disk can be hard to do. Any other programs that access the hard drive while you defrag your drive forces Defrag to restart the process from the beginning. But you can create a "run-once" defrag job that will execute the Disk Defragmenter before the desktop appears, which speeds things up by preventing an interruption.
To create your startup Defrag task, you need the Windows 98 Installation CD. In Windows Explorer, open the \tools\mtsutil folder on the disc, right-click the DEFRAG.INF file, and choose Install from the pop-up menu.
The next time you boot your machine, Disk Defragmenter will automatically run before Windows loads the Desktop. If the computer is configured with a Client for Microsoft Networks or Microsoft Family log-in, the application will run after you enter your name and password and Windows will load the Desktop after the defrag is finished.
